Tauranga is growing. Tauranga City is projected to grow by approximately 78,500 residents over the 50 years from 2013 to 2063. This will require approximately 49,300 new dwellings to be constructed over the same period.
Residential construction is booming
There has been a major increase in people building new houses in Tauranga over the last two years. In the 2016 calendar year, almost 1,600 new dwelling consents were issued – 86% higher than the ten-year average. This trend is projected to continue through 2017 and 2018.

These projects will help Tauranga City meet new Government requirements for urban land supply, whereby growth councils must have at least 10 years’ worth of zoned land supply available at any one time.
