Open days at Tauranga's water and wastewater treatment plants

Event date: 27/09/2019 9:00 a.m. - 28/09/2019 2:00 p.m. Export event

Wastewater Treatment open days

Have you ever wondered how clean drinking water makes it to your tap? Do you know how wastewater is treated before it is returned to the environment?

On Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September, we’re opening the doors to our Oropi water treatment plant and Chapel Street wastewater treatment plant for a behind-the-scenes look at how water is processed and treated, from source to sea.

Register for one of our tours, and find out how we keep Tauranga’s water flowing.

Tours will be held at both locations between 9am and 2pm, and will take around one-and-a-quarter hours. The maximum group size for each tour is 15 people. You’ll need to be able to climb stairs, and deal with heights and some uneven surfaces, so the tour is not suitable for prams, wheelchairs or mobility scooters.

Good to know

Parking at both sites is limited so please aim to arrive around 15 minutes before your tour starts.

You’ll need to wear appropriate clothing and closed, flat shoes (no high heels or jandals). If your clothing and footwear is unsuitable you will not be allowed to join the tour.

Part of the tour will be outdoors so dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle. The Oropi water treatment plant tours can go ahead rain or shine, but if it rains, we’ll have to cancel the Chapel Street wastewater treatment plant tours. We’ll let everyone know if this happens.
