We use a behavioural-based approach when interviewing candidates. The interview questions are designed to help us determine how well you have demonstrated the required competencies of the position in your past and current employment.
To prepare for the interview, refer to the competencies set out in the advertisement and position description. This will help you in referring to actual and job related examples and relevant situations from previous roles, volunteer work, school, hobbies and other parts of your life if relevant. It helps to think in advance of at least one example to illustrate each competency and when responding to the questions during the interview, be specific and detailed in your answers.
Tauranga City Council treats all information during the interview process as confidential - this includes your CV, interview transcripts and reference checks. If a candidate is unsuccessful with their application, these documents will be securely destroyed
If you are one of the preferred candidates, we will contact your referees for further information.
If you have not already provided your referees, we will ask for them after your interview.
Unsuccessful candidates will be contacted and offered feedback if requested.
The successful candidate will receive a formal written offer of employment from Tauranga City Council.
This offer is subject to the right to work and live in New Zealand and to appropriate pre-employment checks. This may include psychometric testing, computer testing, a criminal record check, or Police vetting for children’s worker roles (218kb pdf)
We use an online system for candidates to accept and sign their individual employment agreement. The system will ask for additional information such as KiwiSaver, tax details, and supporting documentation. This allows us to begin the process of setting up the new candidate in our corporate systems.
Candidates may seek independent advice prior to accepting the offer.
