Council is committed to enhancing community wellbeing and increasing the quality of life for Tauranga residents, in order to provide a higher standard of living for all.
People are at the heart of cities. Everything Council does impacts people. As the city grows and changes, we want to improve the lives of everyone in our community, and ensure that 'no one is left behind'.
The Community Wellbeing Strategic Plan will help us prioritise investment and resourcing of community wellbeing initiatives in our city, so that Tauranga is a place where people want to live, work, invest and visit.
The Community Wellbeing Strategic Plan is currently in draft.
Our focus
The Community Wellbeing Strategic Plan is focused on five key priority areas:
Social equity
Ensuring Tauranga is a fair and just society where everyone has access to enough resources (including housing) to participate in their community
Community pride and belonging
Celebrating identity, heritage and cultural diversity, and feeling a sense of belonging and inclusion
Healthy and active communities
Supporting healthy living and physical activity, and having access to health services
Safe and resilient communities
People are safe and feel safe in their homes, neighbourhoods and public places
Engagement and partnership
Collaboration with partners, including tangata whenua, and engaging in two-way conversations with our communities so we can better understand their needs
Under each of these priority areas are desired outcomes, key interventions, indicators of change and flagship initiatives.
We want our residents to feel a sense of community pride and belonging, and to celebrate their identity, heritage and culture. We want our communities to be happy, healthy, safe and resilient places to live. We want to engage in two-way conversations with our residents and partners so we can better understand their wants and needs.
