Please see below the final update on the project for the year.
We finish work on site today and start again on Monday, 7 January. Traffic movements through the site over Christmas will be as they have been over the past month. Our traffic control people will monitor the site throughout the Christmas break.
It’s been a huge year, we have been on site 202 days now – since starting in May. We have made a significant change on Durham Street, with major upgrades on all the underground services. The upgrades that we have done this year are expected to last the next 50 years. This work presented significant challenges manoeuvring our way through unknown underground cabling and pipework. We have managed to do this work and maintain uninterrupted services throughout the year. This is a massive achievement from a construction and safety point of view.
Other highlights include; two new retaining walls on Durham Lane, half of Spring Street intersection with its new concrete surface, two new rain gardens dug in, four garden beds installed, we have installed about 3km of services including water, gas, power, fibre, and wastewater.
Most of the unknown problems have now been resolved and we expect good progress as we build the new pavement and landscape in the New Year.
We know this year has been challenging for everybody and we are really looking forward to our 2019 work which will reveal what all this upheaval has been in aid of.
We would like to thank you immensely for your tolerance over the last six months, and wish you a safe and happy holiday break.
If you have concerns about the site during the break, please call the Tauranga City Council mainline on 07 577 7000.
Traffic management remains the same as per map below:
