The Durham Street and Durham Lane upgrade has been a complex project full of surprises. From archaeological findings such as evidence of Maori-era storage pits, to the relocation of services that have not been touched in many years, there have been numerous twists and turns. Due to the number of disruptions, the revised date to complete this project has been extended until spring 2019.
Despite some problems with storm water services in this area, it has been a successful week of night work past businesses near Elizabeth Street.
There will be two crews working at night next week. One crew will be excavating and preparing the footpath while the other crew will be laying watermains. Durham Street will be closed from 7:00pm each night to accommodate this work.
Spring Street and Durham Street Intersections
Cobblestone paving work on the Davista corner is nearing completion. Concrete pavement will start next week on the East side of intersection. There will be some pedestrian access changes in this area due to preparing the WINZ corner for cobblestones. Access will always be available to WINZ.
Cablework trenching and pavement work will begin next week. Work has started on the lane from the University of Waikato to Cameron Road with the kerbing past 4 Season ready to be poured.
Please note that access to the carpark behind Smith & Smiths is from Spring Street.
