Council reopens event funds

Tauranga City Council is reopening three of its event funds today, with a temporarily reduced event funding budget.

The $200k decrease to the Event Funding Framework (EFF) for the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021 was adopted as part of council’s revised 2020/21 Annual Plan yesterday. It forms part of a number of measures council has introduced as part of its response to the disruptions caused by COVID-19.

This leaves around $270k of the EFF budget to allocate to eligible events in this financial year.

In addition, council is introducing some temporary changes to the EFF, intended to make funding more accessible and to better support the local event industry as it begins its COVID-19 recovery. Changes include: adding event types, removing the number of minimum attendees for sporting events, priority for local events and greater priority for events that use local suppliers.

Funding rounds
The Community Event Fund, Event Support Fund and Major Event Fund all reopen today and close at 5pm on 30 August 2020. Funding decisions will be released by 14 September 2020 at the latest.

The Legacy Event Fund will remain closed to new applicants during this time.

Short-lead events
As some events are scheduled to take place in the near future, council will consider these applications on a weekly basis, with decisions released the following week. In this instance, short-lead events are events that occur on or before 31 October 2020.
