Tauranga welcomes in 2021

Tauranga celebrated the arrival of 2021 last night with citywide fireworks displays and five colourful community events held across the city.

Acting Mayor, Tina Salisbury, said it was great to see more people than ever come to this year’s New Year’s Eve Community Celebrations in the City Centre, Greerton, Matua, Blake Park and Papamoa.

“To see more than 12,000 people come together to enjoy the events, live music, entertainment and fireworks was a great way to round off 2020.”

New this year, Mount Maunganui residents and visitors had a local community celebration at Blake Park.

The events are part of council’s work to promote a safer new year and to offer a way for everyone to celebrate locally in a community-minded, family-friendly environment.

Acting Mayor Salisbury hoped as many people as possible would get to enjoy the summer break in our beautiful city.

“We’re lucky that we get to enjoy the best of summer right here. If you’re on stay-cation or are visiting our beautiful city, there’s lots to do and plenty of upcoming events to enjoy.”
