The Tauranga City boundary is being altered to include four areas of land currently located within Western Bay of Plenty District boundary - Tauriko West, Belk Road, Keenan Road and Tara Road.
The boundary alteration has been considered and decided by the Local Government Commission.
On 1 January 2021, Tauriko West was transferred to the Tauranga City Council, from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council jurisdiction. Keenan Road, Belk Road and Tara Road areas were transferred on Monday, 1 March 2021. All four boundaries changes have now taken effect.
Planning on developing land within this area?
There is a transition period that applies to the properties located within these areas. Once the land is transferred into Tauranga City Council jurisdiction the regulatory requirements of Tauranga City Council do not apply immediately.
If your property has recently transferred from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council area to Tauranga City Council you need to take a look at the Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s policies and bylaws as they still apply to your property. Click to view these policies and bylaws. If you have any questions please call our Policy Team on 07 577 7000.
Please contact Tauranga City Council for any enquiries relating to your land. The following information identifies what regulatory requirements apply to your site.
Until such a time as these areas have been rezoned the Western bay of Plenty District Plan still applies, however, all correspondence and processing of an application is the responsibility of Tauranga City Council.
