Have your say on economic regulation and consumer protection for three waters

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is asking for feedback on whether economic regulation and consumer protection is needed for three waters, and if so, how this should look.

Economic regulation is about having rules in place about things like:

  • what prices the new entities can charge communities
  • what information should be available to the community.

This is important when businesses (such as the new water entities) have a lot of market power due to lack of competition.

Consumer protection is about having processes in place to give communities a strong voice, fairly resolve any disputes, and ensure a minimum level of service e.g. acceptable number of water pipe breaks per year.

We’re considering making a submission, which we’ll share with you here on our website.
