Stage One of the Cameron Road wastewater upgrade is complete and Cameron Road Joint Venture (CRJV) has started the streetscape upgrade between Wharf Street and Elizabeth Street intersection. There is currently a southbound lane closure on Cameron Road between Spring Street and Wharf Street.
Work on the second stage of the wastewater upgrade is underway with pipe bursting on First Avenue to start in the coming week. Temporary traffic management will be in place, including parking restrictions. The left-hand turn to First Avenue from Cameron Road will be maintained. The right-hand turn on the eastern and western side from Cameron Road will be closed, with no through access at the intersection.
Work continues on the eastern side of Cameron Road between Sixth and Ninth Avenue, and Twelfth and Fourteenth Avenue. Vehicle traffic will be reduced to one lane on the eastern side in the areas where work is taking place. Temporary traffic management will be in place, however access for all residents, businesses and retail will be maintained. It is expected this work will take up to three months to complete.
Links Avenue cul-de-sac trial
From 15 November to 17 December 2021, a temporary cul-de-sac will be in place on Links Avenue. This means no thoroughfare for general traffic for the duration, access is limited to buses, emergency services and rubbish trucks only. This cul-de-sac will be monitored by cameras to enforce these restrictions.

Elizabeth Street upgrade
The Elizabeth Street upgrade continues to work on a number of fronts around the Thirty Eight Elizabeth development (Farmers). Works on First Avenue and Devonport Road are due to be complete in the next few weeks. Works to create the linear park outside Thirty Eight Elizabeth, and to upgrade Mareanui laneway between Thirty Eight Elizabeth and the Elizabeth Street car parking building will be completed in stages as areas are made available.
- Elizabeth Street road closure next week: Elizabeth Street between Grey Street and Devonport Road will be closed from 6am Monday 29 November to 5pm Friday 3 December to enable the installation of a stormwater pipe in the road reserve. Footpath access will be maintained throughout, as well as access to the service lane (beside Events cinemas) for leased parking users, tenants, delivery and service vehicles. Entry to the service lane will be from Devonport Road.
The extended lane closure on the west bound traffic lane (heading towards Takitimu Drive between Devonport Road and Grey Street roundabout) will remain in place until approximately May 2022. The traffic lane closure is to enable streetscape works and Farmers construction to occur simultaneously. Businesses and footpaths and accessways are accessible during works. On-street carparking will be unavailable.
Totara Street safety upgrade
We’re working on a safer option for people who travel along Totara Street.
Service location and excavation work continues between Rata Street and Kawaka Street. There will be a shoulder closure in place and two way traffic maintained. This work is weather dependent.
Night works continue between Hewletts Road and Hull Road and will require traffic traveling south along Totara Street to be diverted along Maunganui road between 7pm and 7am, Sunday to Thursday, until this section of work is complete (pictured below). Both lanes of traffic will remain open along Totara Street during the day.
Day work from Rata Street is due to commence throughout the week on the Port side of the road. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a shoulder closure in place.
- 2 Devonport Road: please take care when walking past the demolition site in this area. There will be footpath detours and some car park closures over the next few months.
