Tauranga City Council is replacing an aging sewage pipeline under Rata Street, between the Nikau Crescent/Rata intersection and Totara Street/Rata Street intersection, Mount Maunganui.
The project is progressing well, and work to install the new pipe is set to begin on Wednesday, 4 October.
Installation will take place between 7am – 7pm, to minimise disruption to residents, and is expected to take 3 – 6 days. Works are dependent on weather, and there may be some noise and vibration.
During this time, traffic will not be able to enter or exit Totara Street at the Rata Street/Rata Street intersection.
A detour will be in place at Puriri Street for northbound and southbound traffic.
Road users are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.
Access to Rata Street will remain open from Maunganui Road. Vehicle access in and out of the Port will be retained throughout works.
Parking on the northern side of Rata Street remains closed, and parking is reduced on Nikau Crescent.
Access to Nikau Crescent from the Rata Street/Nikau Crescent intersection remains closed. A detour via Walls Lane is available for residents and vehicles needing to access Nikau Crescent.
Pumps may be discharging water to a contained area near the entrance of Coronation Park, as required, where fencing and signage is in place.
The full project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2023.
We will continue to provide updates throughout the project and would like to thank the community for their patience as we carry out this important work.
