Report pollution

Please report any pollution incidents to Tauranga City Council or Bay of Plenty Regional Council as soon as possible.

Who to contact

  • For pollution in streams, rivers and the harbour, phone Bay of Plenty Regional Council 24-hour pollution hotline 0800 884 883.
  • For pollution in open drains or the stormwater system such as the road grates, phone Tauranga City Council 07 577 7000.

Please make sure that paint, soap and chemicals do not get into the stormwater system. The drain is just for rain!

The wastewater system and the stormwater system are two different things. When stormwater gets into the wastewater system, the pipes can’t cope with the extra water which can lead to sewer overflows. This causes pollution through wastewater spills into streams or the harbour and can result in serious environmental problems.
