Council’s future office block at 90 Devonport Road

A sustainable development set to house all Council administration staff under one roof.

Council’s future leased office block at 90 Devonport Road will be the largest mass timber office building in New Zealand, once built.

We have entered into a long-term lease arrangement with property development and investment company Willis Bond, which is leading the building’s development. The 10,000sqm building will use engineered timber in place of most traditional concrete and steel elements, with a view to reducing embodied carbon. This and other sustainable developments in the city centre represent Council’s commitment to leadership for a low carbon, resilient future.

There is a team working hard to shape what the inside of the building will look like, to create a space that celebrates vibrancy, promotes wellbeing, inspires innovation, strengthens our relationships to each other, the land and our whakapapa, and holds the community at heart.

Council’s administration staff are expected to relocate to the building by the start of 2025. This will be the first time since 2014 that all administration staff will be under the same roof.

Construction will begin in earnest at the start of 2023.
