Council is working with a development partner to deliver a new civic administration building on 91 Willow Street.
New Civic Administration Building
We’re investing $23.2m in capital costs plus an ongoing lease cost of $2.5m per annum (in today’s dollars), and $4.3m to deliver a public plaza space. The new building will be where council services are operated from; where you can visit our customer service centre, or attend Council meetings.
Council resolved in September 2016, as part of a Long Term Plan amendment, to demolish the Administration building as soon as practically possible, following the discovery of toxic mould in the building in November 2014. Independent investigations revealed significant weather tightness, seismic and building services issues in the building.
Tauranga’s old administration building has now been demolished, and there is now a temporary activation set up and managed by Little Big Events. Little Big Events have an excellent reputation for delivering quality events that bring communities together. A calendar of events, entertainment and activities will bring a vibrancy to the space and attract people into the city centre. This temporary activation will be in place until development plans are finalised, and construction begins.
