Tauranga has a sprinkler and irrigation system ban in place

Memorial Park Aquatics and Recreation Hub

We are planning to build a new Aquatics & Recreation Hub at Memorial Park to replace the Memorial Pools and Memorial Hall, which are reaching the end of their useful life.

The new facility will play a major role in our aquatics and indoor courts networks, providing quality spaces for people with a diverse set of sports and leisure interests and relieving pressure on Baywave and the Trustpower Arena as the city grows.

We intend to build this exciting new facility in two stages.

First, we will build a new Aquatics Centre, with provision for lane swimming and aquatic sports, learn-to-swim and hydrotherapy, and indoor and outdoor leisure pools with hydroslides and splash pads. This phase should be complete by the mid 2020s.

Next, we would build two new indoor courts, along with a fitness centre, integrating the new facility with the existing Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre and the new aquatics centre. This stage would be in the late 2020s.

The new Aquatics & Recreation Hub will be designed to integrate with the park, which we are also planning to make upgrades to, improving its functionality, accessibility and appeal.
