Overnight closures to smooth the way on SH29/Takitimu Drive Toll Road
Tauranga's State Highway 29/Takitimu Drive Toll Road will be closed overnight on Sunday 1 November, with further overnight closures of the city-bound lanes over the following 3 nights so crews can complete asphalt paving works.
The wider closure in both directions on Sunday night is required so crews can so crews can safely complete asphalt works, and make changes to temporary traffic management barriers.
From Monday 2 November nightworks will be focused on one direction only, with the city-bound lanes closed while crews lay new asphalt on SH29/TDTR between the new Takitimu North Link flyover bridge and the SH2 connection. These works will provide a smoother, more resilient road surface and help support the long-term performance of this important transport route.
SH2/SH29/Takitimu Drive Toll Road overnight closures and detours
- SH2/Elizabeth Street to and including SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road (west towards Bethlehem and south towards Tauriko) – Sunday 1 Nov between 8pm to 4am (weather permitting). SH2 detour via Cameron Road to Fifteenth Avenue. SH29 detour via Cameron Road to SH29A.
- SH29/Takitimu Drive Toll Road (from Tauriko north towards the city and Mount Maunganui) – Starting Sunday 1 Nov, for 4 nights between 8pm to 4am. Northbound detour via SH29A.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys, plan ahead and consider alternative routes where possible.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while this work is completed.
