This is to notify you that a wastewater overflow has occurred at 34 Montgomery Road, Judea on 7 October 2022.
The overflow was a result of build-up of fat within the wastewater pipe.  This will have impacted the Waikareao Estuary from the Montgomery Road, Waihi Road end, and other areas to the northeast of the Estuary, that borders Takitimu Drive (SH29, SH 2) stretching up to Maxwells Road, Chapel Street and Sulphur point.

Current Actions

Council staff and contractors have cleared the blockage and will be putting up warning signage in the area along the entry points to the Waikareao Estuary.

These locations include:

• Montgomery Road,
• Ngai Tamarawaho Crescent,
• Judea Sports Ground,
• Coach Drive,
• Pillans Road,
• Goods Road,
• Maxwells Road (carpark and beach area)
• Maxwell Road Rail bridge,
• Harbour Drive,
• Sulphur point boat ramps,
• Keith Allan Drive Boat ramp,
• Chapel Street
• Takitimu Drive.

Water quality sampling will be undertaken as soon as possible, weather permitting.
