The cost of fencing should always be considered before purchasing any pool. We understand that fencing a pool is an added cost, however, it is a legal requirement under the Building Act (2004). The rule exists to prevent unsupervised children from drowning in your pool.

We understand that many of these pools are only up during the peak of summer. However, it only takes an unsupervised child 30 seconds to drown.
Fencing can also be temporary if it is compliant.

We want to make sure there are no preventable drownings in our city. Unfenced pools, whether portable or permanent, pose a significant risk. Central Government recognises this hazard and why all pools under 1.2m high require fencing under the Building Act (2004).
Not only could an unsupervised child drown, but you could also receive a $500 fine for failing to comply with the Building Act.
No, there is no inspection fee for portable pools.

Our Pool Safety Compliance team will be taking an educational approach. They will work with pool owners to understand what they need to do to ensure their pool is safe.
Our pool safety compliance staff are happy to offer advice specific to your pool and property. However, you may need to talk to a local builder or pool barrier supplier/installer for practical installation and maintenance work.
