Tauranga City Council invites proposals for an appropriately experienced and highly skilled Contractor to deliver the construction of the new Tauranga Wharewaka, which will be situated at the southern end of the Waterfront Reserve.
The building will be approximately 8m wide and 29.2m in length and designed to have a “twisted roof” design. The building is to have timber portal frames as the main structure with vertical cladding, open timber screens and coloursteel roof.
The scope of the contract includes, but is not limited to:
- An experienced contractor who has both the capability and capacity to engage, if required, in an ECI contract, for inputs on final design and construction methodology.
- An experienced contractor who has both the capability and capacity to construct the new Wharewaka Pavilion, which will integrate with the new waterfront identity under the wider Civic Redevelopment programme.
- Associated hardscaping around 1m of the building.
- Lighting installation - controlled by Pharos.
- Associated civil works includes, but is not limited to:
- Disconnection of the existing service lines and provision of alternative service connection.
- Mill and dispose of the existing asphalt at the southern mooring holder’s carpark as required for constructing the Wharewaka Pavilion.
- General excavation & fill to attain design level.
- Provide a Traffic Management Plan (TMP).
- Provide Health & Safety procedures (SSSP).
- Provide a Construction Management Plan (CMP).
Alternate proposals and innovation:
Tauranga City Council (TCC) welcomes alternate tenders that propose innovative solutions, provided they adhere to the same design and dimensions and meet or exceed the core functional and performance specifications outlined in this tender. Whilst compliance with the specified requirements is essential, we are open to alternative approaches or materials that may offer enhanced value, improved sustainability, or other benefits.
Tenderers submitting an alternate proposal must clearly demonstrate how their submission meets the intent and performance of the required specifications. Such proposals should be accompanied by sufficient technical detail, drawings, and supporting information to allow for a full and fair assessment.
The principal reserves the right to consider and accept an alternate tender where it is satisfied that the alternative offers equal or superior outcomes.
