Community input invited on two potential locations for the Arataki bus facility

Tauranga City Council is seeking community input on two potential locations for a purpose-built bus facility in Arataki at an open day this Saturday, 11 December, at the Farm Street bus stop.

The project has been in the pipeline for some time and aims to improve public transport connections, accessibility and safety for users, drivers and the local community.

The project is currently at a business case stage and is being funded by Tauranga City Council and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Commission Chair Anne Tolley says the project team has identified two viable locations and is now looking for community feedback to help identify the preferred option.

“The facility has to cater for the huge growth in the area, as well as supporting local businesses and tourism. It also has to support a more sustainable future by encouraging more people to use public transport rather than private vehicles.

“It’s important we progress these investigations and get the community’s feedback on a preferred location for this facility,” she said.

The Arataki Bus Facility will enable improved public transport connections to and from the central coastal hub, strengthen the regional network and reduce the impact of bus operations on people living in the immediate area. It will also provide a more attractive welcome and departure point for the Arataki area.

Possible locations identified for the Arataki bus facility are:

  • Location A Farm Street, on-street and or on land owned by Bayfair
  • Location B Girven Road on-street and or on Arataki Park reserve (St Johns facility)
  • A combination of the two locations
