Works to begin on Harrisons Cut beach access

Improvements to the Harrisons Cut beach accessway from Pāpāmoa Beach Road are set to start on Tuesday, 26 April 2022.

The accessway leading to the car park and boat ramp is at risk of failure due to the unstable bank on the western side of the Harrisons Cut outlet. These works will improve both parking and vehicle access for the public and provide resilience to the bank and stream for future wet weather events.

The initial stages of the project will see the carpark shut for the duration of the works and excavation of the bank. Construction of a retaining wall and reconstruction of the carpark and accessway will follow, with an expected completion of late 2022.

As required by the ecological plan in place to protect coastal habitats, contractors have undertaken relocation of fish, skink and spiders as well as eels, inanga and native freshwater bullies, before construction begins next week.
