Council is very thankful to the community for heeding our calls to allow extra travel time, to use other modes of transport, or avoid travelling through the area today. This has allowed traffic to flow relatively well given the disruptions and diversions.
As expected, travel time in and around Totara Street (Hewletts Road, Maunganui Road, Hull Road) took longer than normal this morning, especially between 8:00am and 9:00am due to the northbound lane closure but it wasn’t as disruptive as the prior closure due to a combination of less people travelling and the Baypark to Bayfair Link and Cameron Road Stage 1 projects being completed.
The Totara Street work has progressed quicker than planned and given the delays from SH29A that we are experiencing, will reopen a day early, at 4:00am, Tuesday, 13 February. Road users may feel some minor imperfections on the new section of road until concrete texturising is complete. This work will take place from 9:00pm, Friday 16 February, through to 6:00am, Saturday, 17 February under a stop-go traffic operation.
The northbound lane of Totara Street remains closed today and we appreciate the community’s ongoing patience until its reopening at 4:00am, Tuesday, 13 February. At this time the eastbound bus lane on Hewletts road will revert to normal operation– buses, bikes, and motorbikes only.

Detour and closure now ends 4:00am, Tuesday, 13 February.
