Matariki - E whai ake nei (coming up)

There is plenty for everyone to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year, in Tauranga Moana. Here’s what’s coming up in the six days ahead.

Rāmere 25 Pipiri ki Rāapa 30 Pipiri - Friday 25 June to Wednesday 30 June.
 
For tamariki (children)
30 Pipiri: Iti Pounamu with Aroha – in these fun pre-school sessions Aroha will lead songs and stories about this special time of year – Tauranga City Libraries
 
Matariki fun for the whole whānau
26 Pipiri: Kōauau Workshop - learn how to make a kōauau from bamboo. Materials supplied - The Incubator Hub 
27 Pipiri: Matariki Family Fun Day - bring along the whānau to enjoy creation stations, storytelling and an art hunt on this fun-filled day. All activities are inspired by Matariki: Te Tau Hou Māori – the beginning of the Māori new year - $5 per family - Tauranga Art Gallery
27 Pipiri: Matariki Village Market - there will be a range of stall holders celebrating kaupapa Māori and sustainability. There will be live music throughout the day - The Incubator Hub 
During Pipiri: Kohi Kāri - celebrate the wonders of Matariki around us in Tauranga Moana.  Visit your local library and collect a set of Kohi Kāri (cards), each library has a different set to collect.  Once you have your cards, the scavenger hunt begins.  Search Tauranga Moana for the items on your cards and discover their stories.  Can you collect the whole set? - Tauranga City Libraries
