Cameron Road
The Cameron Road Joint Venture (CRJV) completed replacing the wastewater pipes running from Harington Street to Elizabeth Street as part of stage one of the city centre wastewater upgrades and started on the streetscape upgrade in this section. The area of Cameron Road between Spring Street and Hamilton Street is currently closed to south-bound traffic.
Work on the second stage of the wastewater upgrade will begin in the coming week, with service investigations on First Avenue. Temporary traffic management will be in place, including parking restrictions and no left turn out of First Avenue to Cameron Road.
Work continues on the eastern side of Cameron Road between Sixth and Ninth Avenue, and Twelfth and Fourteenth Avenue. Vehicle traffic will be reduced to one lane on the eastern side in the areas where work is taking place. Temporary traffic management will be in place, however access for all residents, businesses and retail will be maintained. It is expected this work will take up to three months to complete.
15th Avenue maintenance work
Essential maintenance work on Fifteenth Avenue, between Grace Road and Burrows Street, starts on Saturday 13 November and will take 3 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Traffic management will be in place and weekday work will finish at 3pm to avoid peak hour traffic.
During the weekends a short detour will be in place for eastbound traffic, along Grace Road, Fourteenth Avenue and Burrows Street.
To avoid delays or inconvenience please plan your journey, adjust your travel times or use an alternative route.

Elizabeth Street upgrade
The Elizabeth Street upgrade continues to work on a number of fronts around the Thirty Eight Elizabeth development (Farmers). Works on First Avenue and Devonport Road are due to be complete in November. Works to create the linear park outside Thirty Eight Elizabeth, and to upgrade Mareanui laneway between Thirty Eight Elizabeth and the Elizabeth Street car parking building will be completed in stages as areas are made available.
- Elizabeth Street west bound lane closure: there is an extended lane closure on the west bound traffic lane (heading towards Takitimu Drive between Devonport Road and Grey Street roundabout) until approximately May 2022. The traffic lane closure is to enable streetscape works and Farmers construction to occur simultaneously. Businesses and footpaths and accessways are accessible during works. On-street carparking will be unavailable.
Other temporary road and lane closures are anticipated on Elizabeth Street and around the Grey Street roundabout including the following:
Elizabeth Street
- Elizabeth Street between Grey Street and Devonport Road will be closed at night on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 to enable the removal and replacement of streetlights.
Grey Street roundabout
- Part of the Grey Street roundabout remains closed until approximately Wednesday next week (17 November) to connect the stormwater treatment device into the stormwater network and to enable construction of landscaped kerb buildouts and pedestrian crossings. Traffic cannot turn into Grey Street from Elizabeth Street however traffic can turn left or right onto Elizabeth Street from Grey Street. Access to footpaths, businesses and driveways is retained. Access to the Elizabeth Street carpark remains open. On-street carparking outside Macpac is removed for the duration of the works.
Devonport Road
- The southbound shoulder between First Avenue and Elizabeth Street will be closed all day on Tuesday 16 November to allow for the installation of three street light poles. All car parks will be removed for the day.
- During the night on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18, the southbound lane on Devonport Road will be closed, with a stop/go in place at the Elizabeth Street/Devonport Road intersection. This will enable the installation of traffic lights.
Totara Street safety upgrade
We’re working on a safer option for people who travel along Totara Street.
During the week, underground services will be identified using hydrovac trucks between Hewletts Road and Triton Avenue. There will be speed restrictions in place and the majority of works will be during the day and should not affect access to businesses. This work is weather dependent.
Weather permitting, from 16 November, construction between Hewletts Road and Hull Road will require traffic traveling south along Totara Street to be diverted along Maunganui road between 7pm and 7am, Sunday to Thursday, until this section of work is complete (pictured below). Both lanes of traffic will remain open along Totara Street during the day.
