To significantly improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists at the Tara Road and Parton Road roundabout in Pāpāmoa, Tauranga City Council is installing four signalled, raised crossings. To allow the safe construction of the crossings, night closures are required for five nights starting Sunday, 3 December 2023.
To date, construction, including installing poles and ducting and upgrading kerbs, paths and drainage, has been able to progress with lane closures. However, roads need to be closed for the construction of the crossings themselves. This is expected to take three nights at Te Okuroa Drive and Tara Road, then work shifts to both sides of the Parton Road for the following two nights. The work is on track to finish before Christmas.
Road closures and traffic diversions in a busy area can be frustrating - this is why the work is planned at night between 8pm and 5am. This work is weather dependent and rain could see it postponed at short notice - digital signs in the area will keep the public posted.

Detours during closures:
Tara Road/Te Okuroa Drive night closures – 3, 4 and 5 December 2023
Between the hours of 8pm and 5am, traffic to and from Te Okuroa Drive will be diverted via Pāpāmoa Beach Road using Monticola Drive and Golden Sands Drive. From the motorway, traffic can use Domain Road to get into Pāpāmoa, and traffic from Te Puke can use Parton Road, Bell Road and the Te Puke Highway.

Parton Road North and South night closures – 6 and 7 December 2023
Between the hours of 8pm and 5am, traffic into and out of Pāpāmoa will be diverted via either Domain Road, Pāpāmoa Beach Road or Tara Road and Te Okuroa Drive.
To prevent U-turns on these roads during closures, digital signs will be placed on strategic locations leading to the roundabout. This will give drivers a heads up in time to choose an alternative route.
Construction work will continue to result in some longer driving times. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause Pāpāmoa residents and anyone driving through the area.
