Travel Safe

Travel Safe is an all-ages community focused approach to road safety in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.

A joint initiative between Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, NZ Police, and NZ Transport Agency. The Travel Safe team partner with and work alongside communities, schools, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and students, to deliver programmes and initiatives to reduce accidents and improve road safety.

The programmes are developed to address identified high risks for targeted audiences.

Travel Safe is driven by guiding principles:

  • listening to communities
  • keeping it simple and flexible
  • developing community and school ownership at the beginning
  • strengthening community action
  • developing personal skills
  • creating supportive environments
  • supporting building healthy public policy
  • valuing volunteers

Have your say on the future of Aspen Reserve

Tauranga City Council is investigating the future of Aspen Reserve and is seeking your input into the look and feel of the park.

The redevelopment of this inner city park is part of the Heart of the City programme. Council adopted the Heart of the City programme in December 2016. Improving the look and feel of city centre streets and parks is part of the approach to creating a vibrant, safe and successful city centre.

To make it easy for the community to provide feedback about the future of this space, Council is hosting two open days at Aspen Reserve (opposite old Post Office building on the corner of Mc Lean and Willow St). Please come and chat to Council staff over FREE coffee and cake.

The type of things Council wants to know is:

  • Do you use Aspen Reserve at the moment? How? Why not
  • How would you like to use Aspen Reserve in the future?

The Aspen Reserve Open Days are:
Thursday, 9 February from 11.30am to 1.30pm
Friday, 10 February from 11.30am to 1.30pm
Our wet weather location is the Tauranga City Council office on Willow St.

If you are unable to join us on the day, you can email your feedback to haveyoursay@tauranga.govt.nz
