Political parties and candidates wishing to place election signs within Tauranga's boundaries are required to follow certain rules.

All signs placed beside state highways must follow rules set by Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA).

Election signs in other Tauranga locations
- Local government election signs can only be displayed from six weeks before election day to the day after election day i.e. not before Saturday, 8 June 2024 and must be removed by noon on Sunday, 21 July 2024.
- Election signs on private property must comply with the City Plan rules for temporary signs (Chapter 4) – note a building consent is required if an election sign has a surface area greater than 6 square metres and/or exceeds 3 metres in height. A resource consent is required if an election sign does not comply with the City Plan’s permitted activity rules for temporary signs.
- Election signs can be located in the pre-approved sign locations set out below without seeking approval from Council. Only one election sign per candidate per designated area is permitted.
- Election signs in any other public place must have Council approval.
- The maximum size of an election sign in a public place is 1.5 square metres.
- The same rules apply to a vehicle sign.
