This AIP has now been adopted at the Council meeting on 21 August 2023.
Thank you to everyone who has provide time and feedback on preparing this plan.
Please note that our action and investment plans are roadmaps for how we can achieve Our Direction, but we cannot fund all of them all at once. Most of the “priority actions” within each plan have are currently included in our working draft Long-term Plan 2024-2034 (as at July 2023), and this is clearly shown in the action tables within each plan. When the Long-term Plan is finalised next year, we will go back and update the actions in these plans to reflect final Long-term Plan funding decisions.
For reference, here is the earlier draft AIP that went out for feedback in May 2023
Accessible Tauranga AIP - working draft v3 - 12 May 2023 (902kb pdf)
Our city needs to be accessible for everyone. Barriers exclude people and leave them feeling that they do not belong.Together, we want to create a city that works for all, where no one experiences physical barriers or is unable to access information that enables them to live their best life.
Tauranga has an ageing population and a growing number of people living with a disability.
Together, with our communities, we’re taking action to improve physical access to our places and spaces, design new places and spaces with accessibility as a priority and ensure everyone can access the information they need to fully participate in society. We’re also taking action to lift our game and make council information and communication more accessible to people living with a wide range of challenges, including sight and language.
When maximising accessibility becomes part of everybody’s everyday thinking, we will be on the way to achieving our goal of a city where everyone can participate equally.
