Girven Road intersection improvements - Road closure

Travelling between Pāpāmoa and the Mount is going to get safer and easier. For a smoother connection between Maranui Street and Oceanbeach Road and safer ways to get around for people who walk or cycle, we are installing a new roundabout and pedestrian crossings on Girven Road.

This work will take about four months from Monday, 29 April, and detours will be in place while construction is underway so please follow the signs for temporary traffic changes in the area and allow extra time for travel.

For the first three weeks of May we will close a section of Girven Road one way between Paterson Street and Oceanbeach Road.
With only one lane operating:

  1. Girven Road traffic heading towards the beach will need to divert along Paterson Street to Concord Avenue.
  2. Maranui Street traffic flowing towards Mount Maunganui will turn left onto Girven Road, then right onto Paterson Street and follow the detour back onto Oceanbeach Road.

You can expect reduced speed through the construction zone on Girven Road. This detour may add approximately 2 minutes to your journey.
