Tauranga Art Gallery Trust

Tauranga Art Gallery Trust (“TAGT”) is a trust, controlled by Tauranga City Council.

Council appoints trustees to the council-controlled organisation's (CCO) board of trustees.

Purpose of the CCO and The Tauranga Art Gallery:

TAGT owns and operates the Tauranga Art Gallery Toi Tauranga (TAG) on behalf of the residents of Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty, ensuring sound governance and financial management. TAGT aims to create exceptional art experiences that engage, inspire, challenge and educate through exhibitions, public programmes and events.

TAG's purpose is to deliver exceptional art experiences and exhibitions of historical and contemporary art. Exhibitions are developed in house with the balance being a mix of touring exhibitions from other institutions and artist projects. A range of education and visitor programmes are developed around the exhibitions to enhance our visitors' experience.

The CCO has a key partnership role in the Te Manawataki o Te Papa civic development plans, with the redevelopment of the Gallery. This redevelopment will see a reorientation of the Gallery to face Masonic Park along with a new entrance to create a more welcoming environment, café, children’s gallery, education centre and interior fit-out. While closed, the Gallery will also upgrade the lighting and air-conditioning systems, bringing it up to international museum standards. The Gallery is expected to reopen in 2025.

For more information about the delivery arm of TAGT, please go to the art gallery's website.
