The library car park on Hamilton Street will be closed this Sunday, 9 July 2017, while contractors install fencing and hoardings in preparation for demolition of the Council’s Administration building.
The library car park will reopen on Monday, 10 July 2017, however there will be fewer parks available until the end of August, as part of health and safety measures in place during the demolition project.
There will be an alternative book drop-off at the main entrance to the library, and from Monday, pedestrian access from the car park to Wharf Street will be between the library and Baycourt.
Mobility parking will be temporarily relocated to Masonic Park, where two additional mobility spaces will be added. We are also adding another mobility park on Durham Street, near Baycourt.
Council’s Customer Service Centre and the library will be open normal hours.
From late August, the library car park will closed until the demolition is complete, which is currently scheduled to be late October 2017.
Council apologises for any inconvenience during this time, as it works to create a vibrant, safe and successful city centre.
Council resolved in September 2016, as part of the Civic Heart Long Term Plan amendment, to demolish the Administration building as soon as practically possible, following the discovery of toxic mould in the building in November 2015. Independent investigations revealed significant weather tightness, seismic and building services issues in the building.
