Additional security measures

We are aware that some customers are having issues making payments online. This is due to Visa and Mastercard now enforcing two-factor authentication on all payments in order to increase security.

If you are having issues making an online payment, please contact your bank.

Key dates and penalties

Your next rates invoice will be emailed or posted to you on 1 August 2023, and payment will be due on 31 August 2023.

Each year your rates are calculated for the period running from 1 July to 30 June.

  • The first instalment is due on the last working day of August and your annual rates assessment will be sent out on 1 August with your invoice.
  • The second instalment is due on the last working day of February and invoices for this instalment will be sent out on 1 February.

If you pay your rates by direct debit, your new rates payment will be will automatically updated and debited from your account. You will be notified of any changes to your payments in advance.

Make sure you pay by the due date to avoid a late payment penalty.

We may be able to assist you to get your penalty removed. Call us right now on 07 577 7000 or email arrangements@tauranga.govt.nz and we can talk about possible arrangements to clear your rates. 

After a while and a couple reminders, we will start the debt collection process. Don’t wait to contact us and get the ball rolling to find a solution.

Standard rates penalties:

Penalty 1 - 10% penalty on late payment of a rates instalment invoice

Avoid this by ensuring that you pay the full amount of your rates by the due date. Allow for bank processing times when you make your payment, and include a reference with your payment (e.g. water rates) so we can allocate the funds correctly.
