Both the Mauao base track and Moturiki (Leisure Island) have re-opened after being closed on Sunday.
 
Council will reassess the re-opening an hour before high tide tonight at 8pm. If anything changes, signs and barriers will be in place again. We ask that the public respect the signs and barriers that are in place, as these are there for their own safety.   
 
The tracks were closed as a precaution due to strong and unpredictable surges following a large volcanic eruption in Tonga, as well as higher than normal swells generated by Cyclone Cody.
