Travel Safe

Travel Safe is an all-ages community focused approach to road safety in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.

A joint initiative between Tauranga City Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, NZ Police, and NZ Transport Agency. The Travel Safe team partner with and work alongside communities, schools, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and students, to deliver programmes and initiatives to reduce accidents and improve road safety.

The programmes are developed to address identified high risks for targeted audiences.

Travel Safe is driven by guiding principles:

  • listening to communities
  • keeping it simple and flexible
  • developing community and school ownership at the beginning
  • strengthening community action
  • developing personal skills
  • creating supportive environments
  • supporting building healthy public policy
  • valuing volunteers

Heart of the City update - 9 November 2018

Are you interested in an advisory role for Heart of the City?  

This is a special e-mail to invite Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Tauranga City Centre Technical Advisory Group. 
  • EOI released: 12 November 2018
  • Deadline for Questions: 4pm 16 November 2018
  • Deadline for Registrations: 2pm 23 November 2018 
We are seeking to fill two vacancies on our Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to provide design advice that will maximise the delivery of:
  • A more vibrant, safe and successful city centre
  • Improved value for money for the community
  • Local and regional economic development
  • To encourage more people to visit the city centre and stay longer.

In Scope

The Technical Advisory Group considers the design aspects of publicly delivered projects in the city centre area between Eleventh Avenue and Marsh Street.

Out of Scope

The TAG is not responsible for design development but providing advice on design proposals. TAG do not review private developments.

What we are looking for

We are looking for two new TAG members who:
  • Hold expertise in design and delivery of projects in the following areas to complement the existing skill sets on TAG;
  • Urban Design
  • Arts and culture
  • Place-making
  • Strategic Property/ Development
  • Hold experience in successful strategic city centre developments, preferably at a framework level as well as individual project level.
  • Understand the Tauranga city centre and waterfront context.
  • Think in a visionary and strategic manner, and
  • Have a strong understanding of governance
TAG meet on a monthly or bi-monthly schedule. TAG members are provided relevant material a week prior to each meeting.

Evaluation criteria

Responses will be assessed using the following criteria:
  1. High level of relevant specialist professional expertise
  2. Recognition as an authority in specialist area
  3. Experience in relevant projects and programmes at a similar level of complexity
  4. Experience of working effectively in advisory and review capacities
  5. Membership in national level professional body
  6. Understanding of the Tauranga community context.
Expressions of Interest are to be via soft copy and emailed to: Jennifer.Butcher@tauranga.govt.nz by 2.00pm Friday 23 November 2018.
 
All applications will be dealt with in strict confidence.
 
The form of Expressions of Interest will be cover letter and attached CV, providing details on how the assessment criteria are met. Two referees shall be provided. This is a pro-bono membership, with TAG members reimbursed for expenses only.
