The central heritage study

The central heritage study was a joint initiative between Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Tauranga City Council and was commissioned as part of the City Centre Strategy. The study provides a comprehensive review of built heritage within the Tauranga city centre.

Although the study is for information purposes only it also provides a basis from which to assess, manage and potentially retain built heritage within the city centre.

The study is in two parts. Part one includes an historic overview, a summary of heritage values, and options for enhancing heritage management. Part two contains an inventory of heritage places and associated record forms.

This study has been utilised in the development of the proposed Tauranga City Plan Built Heritage provisions. The outcome of which is provided for within Chapter 7 - Heritage of that Plan.
