Watch out for changes in pedestrian walkways near the carpark building mid next week. Work will start on excavating the footpath from Spring Street to the parking building entrance, which means we will need to close that footpath.

Pedestrians will be diverted across the road to the new path and through fenced access paths to Spring St (Map below –highlighting the pedestrian routes in red.)

Spring Street and Durham Street Intersections

• Concrete nibs and pavement preparation are underway for the remaining pedestrian areas on the west side of the intersection.
• Good progress has been made on pavement concrete slabs in the intersection.

Durham Street Water Shutdown

• There was a water shut down on the east side of Durham street between 9pm Sunday night until 6.00am Monday morning to commission and connect properties to the new watermain.  Water should all be reconnected now.
• Once the new watermain is operational, work will start early in the week on the footpath and rain gardens near the parking building. Pedestrians will be detoured to the other side of the road while this activity is underway.
• The first section of kerbing in the area at the south end of Durham street was laid during the week (see photo).
• Extensive archaeological work outside Smiths Motorcycles has been completed and the base layers of the pavement have been laid.
• The area from Gengys to the Rock shop will be excavated next week and the possibilities of archaeological discoveries in this area are less likely.
• There is some stormwater pipe work to be installed near Elizabeth Street end of Durham Street next week. 

Durham Lane

• The lane from Durham Street to Bongard Centre remains closed for now while the base pavement construction in Durham Street is completed  past the Lane entrance. Access will be from Cameron Road adjacent to Bongard Centre.
• Work has been slow on the Lane from University of Waikato to Cameron Road. The design of the concrete nib adjacent to Craigs carpark has been finalised and tests are underway and the pavement treatment has just been confirmed. So this work will get underway again next week.
