From Saturday, 11 May 5am to Monday, 13 May 6am Totara Street will be closed for all vehicles between Hull Road and Kawaka Street. Tauranga City Council and KiwiRail are upgrading two rail level crossings on one of our most strategic corridors and are making these crossings safer for all users. There are two elements to this work:

1. The installation of automatic pedestrian gates to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists in this area. This will require a shoulder closure. Temporary traffic management will be in place to indicate alternative routes.
2. The rail crossing upgrade at the crossing north of Hull Road. This work is planned to start on 5am Saturday 11 May and to be completed by 6am Monday 13 May. This work requires the road closure. 

If you’re travelling by vehicle, please allow extra time and follow the detours. Footpath users will be able to cross at all times.

The pedestrian gates will be in use later this year once rail signals are completed. Until then, please observe the temporary safety warnings in place.
