Tauranga City Council elected members have voted unanimously to seek a positive way to address relationship issues which have raised community and government concern.
That will see the appointment of a Review and Observer Team comprised of either two or three independent members to support, monitor and report back to the Council and the Department of Internal Affairs on progress in restoring the strong and unified leadership required to advance the city’s interests.
Chief Executive Marty Grenfell will report back to the council as soon as possible with a draft terms of reference for the Review and Observer Team, recommended appointees and a cost estimate and budget request.
Speaking after today’s meeting, Mr Grenfell said the unanimous adoption of all recommendations was encouraging.
“Elected members have made a clear decision. We now have a job to do and we are committed to getting on with it, on behalf of the community and the organisation,” he said.
“The community can be confident that we will strive to deliver the quality services and decision-making it expects.”
