Hawaiki Herenga Haka, a celebration of Tauranga Moana Kapa Haka
Experience the ihi (excitement) and passion of our Te Matatini competitors and local school groups performing live at Trustpower Arena, Baypark, on Saturday, 22 April from 11am-4pm.
Alongside kapa haka performances, there will be kai trucks, Māori stall holders, poi making, clay pipe and raranga bracelet workshops, making it the perfect day out for you and your whānau.
This is a free event brought to you by Tauranga City Council. Please note the change of location from Memorial Park to Trustpower Baypark due to expected poor weather.
Drivers are reminded that a detour is still in place on Truman Lane. Access to Trustpower Baypark is via State Highway 2 Sandhurst interchange only. Access to Truman Lane from the State Highway 29A roundabout is closed.

Anzac Day commemorations
Tauranga City Council, local RSAs and community groups are coming together once again to organise Anzac Day dawn and civic services across the city on Tuesday, 25 April.
Local events include:
- Pāpāmoa Memorial Dawn Service
5.30am, Pāpāmoa Memorial, Stella Place beach car park, Pāpāmoa Beach Road
- Mount Maunganui Dawn Service
5.45am, Mount Maunganui Cenotaph, Marine Parade (opposite Mount Drury)
- Mount Maunganui Civic Memorial Service
9.15am, Mount Maunganui Cenotaph, Marine Parade (opposite Mount Drury Reserve, Hopukiore)
- Tauranga Dawn Service
5.45am, Tauranga RSA Cenotaph, 1237 Cameron Road
- Tauranga Moana Tumatauenga Anzac Commemorations
5.45am, Te Whetu o Te Rangi Marae, Welcome Bay Road, Tauranga
- Tauranga Civic Memorial Service
8.45am, Tauranga Memorial Park, Eleventh Avenue
This service will take place indoors at Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre should poor weather prevent an outside gathering at Memorial Park.
- Pyes Pa Remembrance Service
11am, Pyes Pa Cemetery, 403 Pyes Pa Road
A free park and ride service, courtesy of Bay of Plenty Regional Council, is available to the Tauranga Civic Memorial Service and the Mount Maunganui Dawn Service.
Road closures
Road closures will be in place for the Tauranga City Centre and Mount Maunganui Centre services.
Tauranga City Centre
From 7am to 12 noon on Tuesday, 25 April:
- Eleventh Avenue – between Devonport Road and Thirteenth Avenue
- Fraser Street – between Eleventh Avenue and Thirteenth Avenue
Mobility card holders will be able to get through the road closures.

Mount Maunganui
From 2am to 12 noon Tuesday, 25 April:
- Marine Parade – between Commons and Banks Avenues
- Pacific Avenue – between Rita Street and Marine Parade

Baycourt’s 40th Anniversary
Baycourt is celebrating its 40th anniversary from Friday, 21 April to Saturday, 29 April. Promising to be a visual and auditory feast, the programme includes exhibitions, performances and, in true Baycourt style, loads of fun.
The team are pulling back the velvet Baycourt curtain and offering an immersive guided tour as part of the free B40:Whānau Day celebrations. This free event takes place on Saturday, 29 April on Baycourt’s lawn, with face painters, roaming performers and food carts to enjoy in between tours.
For those who can’t make it along you can still stay connected from home, as Baycourt is launching an online history of the centre which will continue beyond the anniversary.

Waipuna Park dog walk
From 9am, Saturday, 22 April, Tauranga City Council is hosting a dog walk around Waipuna Park and Johnson Reserve. This is a free event open to everyone. The community is encouraged to keep an eye on the Tauranga Animal Services Facebook page for wet weather updates.
It’s also the final days of Tessa's Treasure Hunt, which closes at 11.59pm Saturday, 22 April. Between now and then, head out to the 17 different parks and reserves where Tessa is hiding across Tauranga, scan the QR code when you find her and go in the draw to win prizes.
