Have your say on museum proposal

Following are some key opportunities coming up.

Have your say on the planning considerations of the proposed Cliff Road site for a museum

Council is investigating the next steps of delivering the proposed museum at 45 Cliff Road. Part of this work is looking at the Resource Management Act requirements, including the City Plan. The outcomes of this process will influence the final look, feel and experience of the museum proposal.

You are invited to provide your views on the best way forward to minimise impacts on the local area while enabling the delivery of a successful museum with a full suite of programmes and events.

Attend a drop-in session:

Location: Bay of Plenty Vintage Car Club Hall next to Cliff Road Car Park.

  • Saturday 10 March, 10am – 12pm
  • Tuesday 13 March, 5pm – 7pm
  • Thursday 15 March, 5pm – 7pm

Have your say on whether or not to invest in a museum in the Long Term Plan 2018-2028

Council is proposing to invest in a museum in its Long Term Plan 2018-2028. This plan sets the direction and budgets for the next 10 years. Have your say and help the council decide whether or not to invest in a museum. The Long Term Plan consultation is open between 16 March and 16 April 2018.

Find out about making a submission online and attending a community open day from 16 March to 16 April.

Take part in the referendum on the proposed museum and its location

The Council is also conducting a referendum as part of the local by-elections in April. Voters will be asked:

  • Do you support the Tauranga City Council including a museum in the 2018-2028 Long Term Plan?
  • In terms of location of the museum,
    • do you support Cliff Road? Yes or no
    • do you support Willow Street? Yes or no

The referendum is non-binding, but will inform Council’s decision-making as part of the Long Term Plan deliberations. Referendum voting papers will be sent by mail from 9 April, together with the by-election voting papers. You can submit your vote online or by post.
