Anzac Day Tauranga Civic Memorial Service

Join us on Anzac Day as we honour the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli and other conflicts in which New Zealand has been involved. Since the first commemorative services in 1916, Anzac Day has evolved into the observance we know today. This year’s Anzac Day Civic Service will be held at 9am on Wednesday, 25 April at Memorial Park, Tauranga, commemorating 103 years since the Battle of Gallipoli.

Free Park and Ride services will be available for the Tauranga Civic Memorial Service and the Mount Maunganui Dawn Service.

Parade information

Groups wishing to march in the parade please assemble by 8.30am next to the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre.

Wreaths

Organisations or groups that wish to lay a wreath during the service please email Kate Percy at anzacday@tauranga.govt.nz.

Wreaths laid during the service will be removed from the cenotaph at dusk on Anzac Day. Wreaths can be collected from the Tauranga RSA at 1237 Cameron Road, Greerton, from Thursday, 26 April until Friday, 27 April 2018. Wreaths not collected by noon on Friday, 27 April 2018 will be disposed of.

If it is wet the service will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre (QEYC). Everything else will stay the same but there will be no parade.

Park and Ride / car parking

A free Park and Ride service will be available from Tauranga Boys’ College on Devonport Road to Memorial Park between 8am and 8.40am, with returning buses immediately following the Civic Memorial Service.

Car parking will be available in the Tauranga Boys’ College car park off Devonport Road (between Thirteenth and Fourteenth Avenues), with marshals onsite to assist people with making their way to the buses. Buses will drop off at the QEYC car park, which is also the pick-up point after the Civic Memorial Service. All park and ride buses are accessible for people with limited mobility.

There is no additional car parking at Memorial Park, however PAK’n SAVE located on Cameron Road, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues, have made their above ground car park available for people attending the Anzac Day Civic Memorial Service.

Car parking for mobility cardholders only will be available outside the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre.

Road closures

Road closures will be in place on Fraser Street between Eleventh and Thirteenth Avenues and on Eleventh Avenue between Fraser Street and Devonport Road (including the roundabouts) from 8am – 11am.
