Durham Street project update - Monday, 20 May 2019

Durham Street

We made good progress last week with four concrete pours in the car parking area and installation of the garden beds beside the parking building.

Footpath work in front of Smiths Cycles, Gengys, Eastern HiFi, The Rock Shop, and Trustpower will mean temporary detours for pedestrians. There will be continued access to all these businesses, but the pedestrian route may change as work takes place. The routes will be well defined and our traffic team will be on site to assist where necessary.

Pedestrian access has also been altered with the new footpath now open from Durham Lane to Spring Street. There is a new temporary crossing to the other side of the road outside of the University of Waikato.

Spring Street and Durham Street Intersections

Spring Street from Cameron Road to Durham Street has now been roadmarked and will be open to traffic today.

The underground services problem at the carpark building corner has yet to be sorted, so work is still delayed on the excavation and paving work of this footpath area. To ensure continued access for our construction plant, work is delayed on the other corner until the carpark building corner is complete.

Durham Lane

The access lane from the University of Waikato to Cameron Road is now open to all traffic.

The accessway from Spring Street to the university has been closed to traffic and pedestrians while excavation and construction is underway. We are in contact with affected people to assist in parking and access needs.

Durham Lane from Durham Street to the Bongard Centre remains closed to traffic while the Durham Street footpath and parking areas are concreted and cured.

Please contact Keith Campbell our Stakeholder Manager if you have any concerns or questions.
