Commissioners' remuneration is set by the Minister of Local Government.
Commission Chair remuneration is set at $1,800 per day and Commissioners at $1,500 per day.
The council is responsible for paying Commissioners' remuneration.
Actual and reasonable expenses such as travel, meals, accommodation and other expenses incurred by commissioners in carrying out their role will be reimbursed.
The expectation is that standards of travel, accommodation, meals and expenses are modest and appropriate to reflect public sector norms.
Commissioners who are required to be away from their normal place of residence and travelling to and from meetings, or other business for their role, are entitled to be paid mileage at rates set out below (Inland Revenue rates). Locally based commissioners will not be entitled to claim mileage for local travel but will be entitled to claim mileage expenses when travelling outside of the city on Council business.
