SmartGrowth Tū Pakari – Pou Hononga (Engagement Specialist)

Tēnā koutou katoa e kara mā e noho ana ki ngā kāinga maha ki te motu, are you passionate about working with and helping our whānau, hapū, marae, Iwi and Māori Land Trusts to identify their future land use aspirations? Are you skilled at networking and organising hui within our Māori communities to find creative and practical solutions?

“Mā whero, mā pango, ka oti ai te mahi – through collaboration the work goals can be achieved.”

About SmartGrowth

Launched in 2004, SmartGrowth was established to provide long-term strategic leadership, vision and direction across the western Bay of Plenty sub-region. The SmartGrowth partnership is made up of five strategic partners – Bay of Plenty Regional Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Tauranga City Council, Tangata Whenua and Central Government.

The SmartGrowth Tū Pakari Advisory team, comprising Pou Ārahi (Strategic Advisor) and Kai Ārahi (Technical Advisor) provide strategic and technical advice to the Combined Tangata Whenua Forum and the tāngata whenua representatives on the SmartGrowth Leadership Group (SLG). The team also provides advice and support to partners on SmartGrowth actions and initiatives that affect tangata whenua. The Tū Pakaru team will work alongside tangata whenua, to ensure effective participation at all levels to ensure their views, perspectives and values are reflected in the decision-making process. About the role

We are adding to our Tū Pakari advisory team with the addition of a Pou Hononga (Engagement specialist) to connect, facilitate, coordinate, provide support and work with the many hapū, Iwi, marae committees and Māori Land entities within the Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty districts.

It is focused on connecting with our people, at a grass roots level, to find out how to realise their aspirations for environmental, social, cultural and economic wellbeing within a sub-region that is growing at a speedy pace.

The ideal person would be great with people and have established networks within the sub-region. They would also have knowledge and/or experience with Māori governance as well as the Māori Land Courts.

This is a busy and varied part-time role (30 hours per week) over a fixed term 12-month period. The specific working hours will be negotiated to suit the successful candidate.

If this sounds like the opportunity you have been waiting for, please don’t hesitate to apply.

Application is available at www.tenderlink.com/tauranga (Tenderlink Ref: TAUR-1022547)

Applications close at 2pm on 6 July 2022.
