Litter and stream clean ups

We love helping community groups who want to get involved in looking after our environment.

Community litter clean ups

We  love to support community groups that want to arrange their own litter clean ups. We can provide bags and gloves for your clean-up and can arrange free disposal for the collected waste at your nearest transfer station. We do need two week’s notice to get these items together though, contact our resource recovery coordinator for more information.

We need two week’s notice to be able to help you and there are health and safety requirement that need to be followed. You'll also need permission from our  parks team to do any clean-ups on Council land. All litter that is collected needs to be removed from the site and waste shouldn't be left by the public bins.

Please complete the litter clean up registration form below to tell us about your event.

Keep New Zealand beautiful week

Keep New Zealand beautiful week is held in September each year.

School stream and estuary clean ups

The Tauranga stream and estuary clean-up programme is run jointly by Tauranga City Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council, and is sponsored by Downer NZ.

The programme provides a great opportunity for local schools to actively give back to their local community and for students to learn about pollution, sustainability, reducing / reusing / recycling waste, and help to clear rubbish from their local environment.

Thanks to Downer’s sponsorship, there is no cost to participating schools. In 2017 over 650 students from 6 local schools, along with volunteers from various community groups, staff from Tauranga City Council, and Bay of Plenty Regional Council cleared over 1 tonne of rubbish and recycling at events in Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, and Papamoa.

To register your school’s interest and for more information contact Jess Allpress at jessica.allpress@tauranga.govt.nz or on 07 5777 000.
