Twelve new car parks will be added to the May Street car park and part of Shadelands Lane. Works start Monday, 30 April and will take about two weeks. The May Street entrance to Shadelands Lane will be closed off during the work. Access to the May Street car park will be maintained from Pacific Avenue, Banks Avenue and through the Phoenix area. The car park itself will remain open.
There will be partial closures for road marking, footpath laying and other work related to the upgrade. The May Street upgrade will be completed before the remaining part of Phoenix area is closed for the next stage of the new urban space development.
Following the upgrade, the May Street entrance to Shadelands Lane will be permanently one-way.
May Street car park will become a P180 zone in June. This will increase the turnover of cars with more car parks available for people visiting Mount Mainstreet to shop and dine.
