SH29 westbound (towards Hamilton) lane closure – Tauriko Enabling Work

To allow for significant stormwater and underground service upgrades a short section of the westbound (towards Hamilton) lane of SH29, between the SH29/SH36 roundabout and Cambridge Road, will be closed 24/7 from 6pm, Wednesday 8 April to 6am, Monday 13 April. Westbound traffic will detour via SH36, Paraone Koikoi Drive, Matakokiri Drive and Kaweroa Drive (see map), adding approximately 5 minutes to Hamilton-bound traffic and 8 minutes to Tauriko Village/Cambridge Road traffic.

During this time, there will be no right turn into Cambridge Road from SH29 with left in access only using the detour. Right turns out will remain.

These works are scheduled during the school holidays to help reduce disruption and crews will work 24/7 to complete the job as quickly as possible. The second stage of works will see the installation of new stormwater pipes and catchpits, with shoulder closures and lane shifts in place from mid-April.

Cameron Road night time maintenance works

We’re carrying out the third and final stage of night time road maintenance on Cameron Road between Garden Place and Twenty First Avenue. We expect this last stage to take three to five nights, with physical works between 8pm and 5am. Cameron Road will stay open throughout the works, with traffic management in place to keep everyone moving.

Stage Three – Garden Place to Twenty First Avenue: Tuesday, 31 March to Thursday morning, 2 April  (6pm to 8am)
Works will take place between 8pm and 5am. There will be lane closures on Cameron Road, with one lane staying open in each direction to reduce disruption. Along with lane diversions there will be side road closures requiring the use of alternative routes. The main entrance to the hospital will also be closed one night.

Access changes include:

  • No right turn in or out of Garden Place onto Cameron Road.  Residents will have access. Please use an alternative route.
  • Eighteenth Avenue East will be closed at Cameron Road while work is underway in the southbound lane near this intersection. Please use Seventeenth Avenue via Devonport Road, or Nineteenth Avenue via Botanical Road, to access Eighteenth Avenue.
  • On Wednesday night the main hospital entrance will be closed. Access to the hospital carpark and Emergency will be via the Clark Road entrance. Ambulances will use an alternative route to access Emergency.
  • Twentieth Avenue West will be closed at Cameron Road while work is underway near this intersection. Please use Twenty first Avenue via Clarke Road, or Seventeenth Avenue via Clarke Road, to access the area.

All works are weather dependent.

Event road closures 2025-2026

Tauranga has plenty of amazing events on offer. To ensure these events are delivered efficiently and safely for participants, the public, residents and businesses, the following road closures will be in place:

Event road closures

Current road closures are listed in our Weekly Bulletin below.

Notice of lane closures in the city centre

Elizabeth Street westbound lane closure:
The westbound lane of Elizabeth Street will be closed from Wednesday, 16 November between Devonport Road and Grey St to carry out investigation and repair works to a wastewater main.

Works are expected to be complete by mid-next week depending on the extent of repairs required.

The pedestrian crossing and footpaths will not be affected, and access to the laneway between But First Dessert and Event Cinema will be maintained.

People are asked to please use an alternative route during these works.

Cameron Road lane closures:
Southbound lane closures will take place on Saturday, 19 November and Sunday, 20 November 6am to 6pm, from Third Avenue to Arundel Street with temporary traffic management in place.

This is to allow for excavation of two trenches required to replace the wastewater pipes connecting to the main pipeline along the centre of Cameron Road at the Fourth Avenue intersection and Arundel Street intersection.

The left turn in to Third Avenue will be maintained during works, and access to Cameron Road from Arundel Street remains open.

There will be some noise, vibration and dust associated with this work, which is weather dependent.

We apologise for any inconvenience travelling around the city centre during this time and thank the community for their patience.
