Together we can send less construction waste to landfill by changing the way we plan, design, build and dispose.
What is construction waste? And what is the benefit of reducing it?
Nearly one quarter of all waste processed at Tauranga Transfer Stations is made up of waste from construction and demolition (23%) and there’s also an additional large amount of construction and demolition waste that ends up in privately managed clean fill sites around the wider Bay of Plenty area. Materials like concrete, wood, and steel dominate this waste stream. Sending these materials to landfill isn’t the only option. We have local facilities that can accept this material for recycling instead.
How we're supporting local construction companies wanting to reduce their waste
We know it can be challenging for those in our local building and construction industry to reduce the amount of construction waste going to landfill while keeping pace with the demands of one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions. To help, we’ve created a Guide to Site Waste Management Planning and a Site Waste Management Plan Template so businesses can plan ahead and better manage waste on site, making it easier to keep valuable materials out of landfill while still meeting project needs.
