Pollution prevention plans and audits

Tauranga City Council and Bay of Plenty Regional Council have developed a guide and template to help commercial and industrial sites assess pollution risks from their business and develop a pollution prevention plan to address these risks.

Pollution Prevention Audits 2025/2026

Between December 2025 and February 2026, Council staff will be in the following areas undertaking audit on businesses that are considered High Risk to the Stormwater Network: Tauriko, Greerton, Roxanne Place and Sulphur Point.

Pollution Prevention Plans are requirement under the Stormwater (Pollution Prevention) Bylaw 2015 for high risk work areas/types.

The guide will help you write your plan and goes through each part, step by step. The guide has checklists to help assess your site for actual and potential stormwater pollution issues. You will also find posters, forms and other documents you can use as part of your plan.
